SockShop Feel Good From the Feet Up - National TVC
The brief
SockShop commissioned their first national television advert, marking a significant step in the brand’s marketing strategy. The brief required full creative development, production, and broadcast delivery, anchored around the core brand message, “feel good from the feet up.”
The campaign was scheduled to launch in October, ahead of peak Christmas trading, but needed to avoid overt seasonal cues. The objective was to create a distinctive, ownable TV advert with year-round relevance and long-term return on investment.
My role
Producer and Director
I led the project end-to-end, combining creative leadership with full production and delivery responsibility. My role covered concept creation, scripting, storyboard development, project management, client liaison, crew build, on-set direction, post-production oversight, and broadcast clearance.
Creative development
I originated a bold, product-led concept designed to make socks the clear hero without relying on traditional character-driven storytelling. The idea followed a family over the course of a day, told entirely from the knees down. By removing faces from the frame, the film shifted attention to movement, rhythm, and personality expressed through footwear alone.
This approach allowed the product to communicate comfort, energy, and everyday joy in a playful and memorable way, directly reinforcing the “feel good from the feet up” message while giving the brand a highly distinctive visual identity.
Production and direction
I planned and delivered the full production, working from detailed storyboards that mapped choreography, camera movement, and pacing. The shoot required precise blocking and timing to ensure clarity and consistency across scenes, while keeping the tone light and energetic.
On set, I directed performance through movement rather than dialogue, working closely with cast and crew to maintain rhythm, continuity, and visual cohesion. I managed the production schedule, coordinated departments, and acted as the primary client contact throughout the shoot.
Post-production and delivery
I oversaw post-production through edit, sound, and final delivery, ensuring the pace, tone, and visual humour carried through to the finished film. I managed the Clearcast approval process and delivered the final advert to broadcast specification for national transmission on ITV.
Outcome
The finished advert delivered a confident, distinctive, and highly memorable debut TV campaign for SockShop. The brand response was extremely positive, with strong feedback from internal stakeholders and customers alike. The campaign marked a major milestone in SockShop’s growth and established a clear creative benchmark for future broadcast work.
